yes, it happens all the time and is happening now.
It reinforces suspicions on the whole field or group.
when folks see a moslem or other dark skinned person of eastern origin, they think "possible terrorist"
when folks see a person of latino origin they think "possible illegal alien"
when folks see a roman catholic priest they think "possible pedophile"
when folks see a cop they think 'possible killer"
so yeah, when you make a list of groups susceptible to negative things or more aptly things you've decided are negative and publish it, even with disclaimers, in an atmosphere of fear, then yeah folks will condemn the whole group/field.
For folks who tout themselves as social justice advocates they sure use a lot of stereotypes and generalizations. The same things they are quick to decry in others.
And now they've laid the ground work for more stereotypes.
